Diabetes is a condition in which your body doesn't use the hormone insulin properly. This results in high blood sugar levels, which can lead to hardening of your arteries and decrease blood flow to your organs. If you're diabetic, incorporating honey and cinnamon into your daily diet may provide a number of benefits.
Honey and Blood Glucose
Consuming honey might lower glucose levels, according to a study conducted by researchers at the Islamic Establishment for Education in the United Arab Emirates. They discovered that diabetic subjects consuming 250 ml of water with 75 g of honey daily for 15 days experienced decreases in blood glucose levels compared with those ingesting dextrose. The findings were published in the spring 2004 issue of the "Journal of Medicinal Food."
Honey and Cholesterol
Diabetics are at increased risk of developing high cholesterol levels, which can increase their risk for heart disease. Scientists at Medical Sciences University of Tehran in Iran investigated the effects of honey consumption on type 2 diabetics. Patients were assigned honey or a placebo daily for eight weeks. Scientists reported in the November 2009 issue of "International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition" that those in the honey group experienced decreases in bad LDL cholesterol and increases in good HDL cholesterol compared with those who had taken a placebo. Researchers stated that honey should be used with caution, since they found that it increased hemoglobin A1c levels, an indicator of blood sugar control, over a three-month period.
Cinnamon and Blood Sugar
Cinnamon might reduce blood sugar levels, according to research reported in the May 2006 issue of the "European Journal of Clinical Nutrition." Scientists at the University of Hannover in Germany observed that type 2 diabetics consuming cinnamon extract, which contained the equivalent to 3 g of cinnamon powder, daily for four months lowered their blood glucose levels compared with those ingesting a placebo.
Cinnamon and Insulin Sensitivity
One of the ways cinnamon decreases blood sugar levels is by increasing insulin sensitivity, according to a review published by researchers at Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center. Increasing insulin sensitivity allows cells to respond better to insulin effects, which increases glucose uptake by cells. This in turn lowers glucose levels in the blood. Cinnamon dosage of 1 to 6 g increases insulin sensitivity and reduces blood glucose levels, according to findings reported in the February 2008 issue of "Proceedings of the Nutrition Society."

So mix 1 tablespoon of raw honey with 1 teaspoon of organic cinnamon powder with warm water, drink once daily, before or after meal. good for diabetic as well as slimming purpose.

Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. It will do what some call turning to sugar. Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. To do so will kill the enzymes in the honey. Make sure your honey is untreated and unporcess and not heated. This will have the greatest benefit. Caution honey is a form of sugar so too much honey of any kind is not good for the body. Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists: 

ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University , it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain. 

BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder. 

CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol. 

COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses. To make it lukewarm, place it in a small jar and let it set in warm water for awhile. 

HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. 

Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins. 

UPSET STOMACH: Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root. 

GAS: According to the studies done in India and Japan , it is revealed that if Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas. 

IMMUNE SYSTEM: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacterial and viral diseases. 

INDIGESTION: Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals. 

INFLUENZA – FLU: A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural ' Ingredient' which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu. 

LONGEVITY: Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Take four spoons of honey, one spoon of cinnamon powder, and three cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans also increase and even a 100 year old might start performing the chores of a 20-year-old. 

PIMPLES: Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root. 

WEIGHT LOSS: Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet. 

SKIN INFECTIONS: Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections. 

FATIGUE: Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a week. 

CANCER: Research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a day. 

BAD BREATH: People in South America first thing in the morning, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their breath stays fresh throughout the day. 

HEARING LOSS: Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts helps restore hearing. 

The side effects of cinnamon if using normal cinnamon:

Commonly used amounts of cinnamon may cause adverse health effects due to its content of coumarin, according to a new study in Norway published in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology. Coumarin is toxic to the liver, is an anticoagulant (it thins the blood), and causes cancer in rodents. The Norwegian researchers established a new Tolerable Daily Intake (TDI) for coumarin of 0.07 mg per kg of bodyweight per day. By using cinnamon on oatmeal or other cereals just a few times a week, it’s estimated that the TDI in children and adults can be greatly exceeded. Researches stated that even a few weeks of ingesting high amounts of coumarin can be dangerous to our health.
Another group of researchers had previously proven that the absorption of coumarin from Cassia cinnamon is almost the same as that absorbed from isolated (pure) coumarin. Thus, we can rely on the TDI for coumarin to measure the risk of coumarin ingestion from cinnamon. This study was performed on humans, and was published in the journal Molecular Nutrition & Food Research.
The type of cinnamon used might be part of the problem. There are two main types of cinnamon, Cassia and Ceylon. The Cassia cinnamon powder has much more coumarin than the Ceylon type. It’s hard to detect which type is Ceylon if you buy the powder form, although Ceylon has a more subtle flavour. But if you buy cinnamon sticks, the Ceylon bark will have many thin layers.
Cassia cinnamon should only be used sparingly, as a very light sprinkling, and not in teaspoon amounts. The safer option is to use the Ceylon type
So, please choose cinnamon from India or Sri Lanka, as their cinnamon is of ceylon type which is much safer than cassia type. 
Asia cinnamon is of Cassia type and it is dangerous to health.


"Benefits of Cinnamon and Honey Drinks"

One of our members recently sent in some info she had come across on a tea made from honey and cinnamon.

So as it was simply a couple of common foods in combination, I thought we might do a trial on it.

The results from some people have been promising, while others have not noted any significant change - so after researching these foods to give you some extra info before trying, I thought we might open up the trial to anyone who wants to try this and ask you to feed the results back to the Polio Office.

If this is going to be something useful to people in the long term, I thought it important to develop it into an enjoyable normal part of our diet. I have found it makes a lovely addition in my cup of cocoa and I am happy to keep doing this by taking it in hot cocoa three times a day. Others are trying in tea or coffee or just in hot water.

Here are some of the results we have had back so far -

Honey and Cinnamon Tea - joint pain better!
I’m over the moon with the success I have had from this combination. I felt an improvement within a week. My joint pain has improved and I no longer need to take painkillers. My feet had been too numb to walk much on since surgery for plantar warts some time ago. I now have 80% feeling back in my feet. I am now able to walk the dog again, and go shopping. I feel better generally. I feel like doing things now and I am able to start doing my housework again. I found that the pure cinnamon from the Chinese shop works better than the supermarket cinnamon that I started with and I am now putting my gelatine in this tea as well. I have been taking 1½ teaspoons of cinnamon and a tablespoon of honey a day in hot water as a tea.

In future I will ring Tessa with my problems first - as she tells me strapping the inside of banana skin onto plantar warts for 3 days will get rid of them without the surgery. If only I had known!. Wendy Masters

NOCTURNAL BLADDER and CHILBLAINS
I have been using the cinnamon and honey tea for the last week and have found that as well as feeling better and more alive, I don’t need to get up to go to the toilet as much as I used to, sometimes sleeping right thru, and I get back to sleep more easily now too. I remember I read about giving a teaspoon of honey before bed to stop bedwetting many years ago. I used it on my children and it certainly worked. (It takes about 3 weeks to be most effective.) I have used equal amounts of honey and apple cider in hot water half an hour before meals twice a day for chilblains effectively when I was younger too.

HANDS, JOINTS, CIRCULATION and SLEEP
I have been taking 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 2 teaspoons of honey in hot water 2 - 3 times a day for 2 months. From the start I had a feeling of warmth down to my stomach. I have become aware that my stomach feels better generally. The most help has been in my hands. I had difficulty holding a knife and peeling vegies. I’m now able to do it. Great improvement in stiffness and soreness. My hand grip is better. Niggly pain in old scar tissue is now going. My joints and hands are less stiff. I am sleeping better. My hands and feet are not as cold as they usually are in winter and I feel that my blood circulation has improved. My muscles seem to be working better which is great as I have Chronic Fatigue. Overall I would say that I am feeling a general enhancement of wellbeing.

DIABETIC USERS
Two of our people with diabetes who have tried this special tea have found that their blood glucose has risen slightly so probably taking only a small amount of honey ie half a teaspoon at a time would be advisable for diabetics wanting to try this tea.

Since each person seems to react differently to foods containing carbohydrates, your best way of determining if honey is okay for you is to test your blood sugar levels before you have it and again two hours later.

Some sources say cinnamon helps to lower diabetic levels other say not - so we would like to hear from any diabetics trying either cinnamon, honey or both of them together. Particularly - can anyone verify this next item I found?

Even the lowest amount of cinnamon, 1 gram per day (approximately ¼ to ½ teaspoon), produced an approximately 20% drop in blood sugar; cholesterol and triglycerides were lowered as well. When daily cinnamon was stopped, blood sugar levels increased.
